NEWS ON OUR OPENING!!! AND HIRING!!! Uncle Bo’s Slow-n-Low 2000 Midway Mall Elyria Ohio, 444035 Please read this in its entirety, to help answer any question you may have. Hello Everyone! We have some fantastic news and then we’ll follow this up with our reality check. Okay, the City of Elyria has given final approval on our entire site plan, with regards to the placement of the two BBQ smokers, and the building they’re going under. We have now started the process of excavating the area, leveling the land and pouring the concrete slab; all of this will be completed by this weekend. Now (the reality check), we needed a building to cover the smokers, but couldn’t order it, for fear it would be rejected, until we received the final approval, on the site plan. So, we just ordered the metal building and are now being told that it will not be able to be delivered and installed for the next 2-6 weeks, weather permitting. What this means is that we cannot open until we have that building in place. The latest the company has predicted being able to install it, is the week of March 18th-22nd. So, we are therefore PROJECTING our opening day, sometime around the beginning of April. We will post more as things develop. However, if all goes well, we will be open in April!!! EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES: Now, as for hiring. We will start the hiring process on Monday, March 11th 2019. If you, or someone you know, is looking for employment, we KINDLY ask that you follow the instructions given. On Monday, March 11th we will start taking applications, during NORMAL business hours; ….9AM to 5PM!! PLEASE share this post! A sneak peak inside the new Uncle Bo's Slow-n-Low!! Located at: 2000 Midway Mall, Elyria Ohio, 44035. got to unclebosbbq.com for more info. Okay, first off and because I'm going to get asked this A LOT, after this post. We DO NOT have an opening date picked out, although we're virtually done with the repairs and remodel. This is because the City keeps asking for more and more information on different things; under various "codes and ordinances". Because we took over a building that has sat for so many years, it needed A LOT OF TLC and unfortunately the new owner(s), of such a building, are tasked with bringing the eyesores "up to code". So, when all the final permits and inspections are done, we'll know more. We're currently waiting on the okay to set the smokers in place; that's the major hold up, at this point. Additionally, we ARE NOT hiring yet, but will be starting that process VERY SOON. My best advice is to like and follow us on FB, to be certain to see when we're starting that whole process. When we have a firm answer, from the City, we'll be able to set an opening date. And I promise to put a VERY large media blast out, to inform everyone. TRUST me, nobody is more eager to open than myself. This hasn't been an easy process, nor cheap, put we've done it and are VERY proud of it. Lastly, we are in search of some ALL WOOD kitchen chairs, as cheap as possible, but they have to be in good shape; NOT broken. We're looking for chairs for $5.00, or under (free is the best price...lol). If you, or someone you know, has some, please feel free to bring them by the restaurant, or message me and I can even arrange for a pickup. I'm truly humbled by the amount of people reaching out EVERY SINGLE DAY to ask when we're opening, and telling me all the good things they've heard, or how much they love the food we offer. Hello Everyone! I just wanted to take a minute to post a quick (extremely overdue) update on the new location, here in Elyria and our “projected” opening date, for Uncle Bo’s. I’m getting personal messages everyday asking when we’ll be getting open and I just can’t seem to keep up. So, I think I’d better post something here. However, first I need to say that we will, for certain, be posting on here, through the newspaper and if feasible, on the radio, when we have a firm date picked out and when the screening and hiring process will begin. So, please be patient with us; we’re not a corporate entity and just don’t have the funds to hire everything out; only the things requiring a licensed contractor. So, we’re doing many of the repairs ourselves, in addition to hand building all of the furniture inside the building; this takes a lot of time to do, but trust me, it will be worth the wait! Now, we’ve ran into A LOT of unforeseen issues, as we began to repair this building; as it was basically left to the elements, after it’s last closer. We had 74 water breaks in the building, from the heat being turned off and the water left on. One of the end results of doing this was the floors where completely soaked. They’re natural (real wood) floors and we didn’t know it until we sanded the old finish up. We then had to allow them to dry for almost two weeks now, which has delayed a lot of the needed work. But, as you’ll see by the “sneak peak picture”, that I’ve posted, they’re coming out beautifully! So, while we did everything we could to get open by the end of September to the 1st of Oct., it’s just not going to happen. So, we don’t have a firm date yet, as we still have to meet with the cities officials and allow their inspection(s), to tell us what more will be needed, after repairing what we know is needed. However, when we get through it all, we will set a “firm opening date” and make plenty of announcements to inform everyone. We’re excited and can’t wait to get open, but it has to be done right and unfortunately, that’s taking a lot of time, but it will be worth it, trust me! Uncle Bo’s officially has a new location. Please read this post, entirely, as it will explain the new developments. On Friday, June 29th, 2018 we have decided to move forward with the purchase of the Former Lone Star Steakhouse, located at 2000 Midway Mall Blvd., in Elyria. The deal is set to close on, not later than, the 12th of July. The Building, and location, both need a tremendous amount of TLC, in order to return it to its former glory. It needs repairs, in order to bring it up to operational code, and will require time to do so. Additionally, we are doing a remodel, to bring it to our desired theme. This will all require time to complete. We are PROJECTING an opening date, sometime in the middle of September, 2018, although this too can change. We are NOT (at this time), doing any hiring, and will make those needed announcements, as things develop; please don’t overwhelm our progress, with requests on the application and hiring process, as we are a long ways away from that point, at this time. We are NOT a corporation, we are a family owned company and as such, our budget is very tight, as a result, we will be doing much of the remodel (painting and decorating) ourselves, that which requires permits, will be handled by outside contractors and we will reach out as needed. We have a very long road ahead of us and we look forward to being a part of this community, we hope that we can, though on a very small scale, help to breathe some much needed life, back into that area and with the communities support, we’re confident, that we’ve chosen the perfect location, for our new home. Hello Everyone, I just wanted to take a minute to inform our customers, and in some cases close friends, that Uncle Bo’s Slow-n-Low will be closing in Bullhead City. Our last day open will be this coming Sunday, February 25th, 2018. As much as this pains me to type this to all of you, I have to make this very difficult decision based on the fact that we are simply too expensive for the area. While I know that I don’t need to go into details about why I’ve made this heart wrenching decision, I will do so, because I know that many of you have supported us, from day one and I kind of feel obligated to explain my decision. Of course, there will be haters and trolls that make comments, on here, just because they have nothing better to do. I am not concerned with them, nor am I trying to entertain them. So, if you’d like a more in-depth explanation, inbox me and I’ll explain it in greater detail. Here are the major reasons for the decision: 1) The minimum wage increase has caused a huge upsurge in our overhead, across the board, not just in payroll. This states community voted in a minimum wage increase that has a trickling effect on every business that we deal with; resulting in about a $4K a month increase in overhead costs. 2) Our food is EXTREMELY labor intensive, because we make it from scratch, it takes time and that costs money. Smoked meats, take long hours to make; briskets take and average of 12-16 hours, pork shoulders are 8-10 and ribs are around 4-5. This means that it is inherently expensive, just from a labor aspect. When we buy, for example, a 17-pound brisket, we trim off about 4 pounds of fat (making it 13 pounds) and then lose about 60-70% of it’s weight, in the smoking process. This means it comes out at about 7-9 pounds. On average, we end up paying $12-$17 a pound, when all is said and done; before we even factor in labor, electric, gas, leasing, wood, insurance or any other overhead cost. Yet, I’m told I’m too expensive. No, smoking meats is inherently expensive and that is hard to understand, for many people, because they see the price tag at the store and think my prices are out of line. 3) While we are busy, the average ticket price has decreased exponentially, starting in September 2017, as the summer tourism died off. We added items, to the menu, as well as rearranged our menu, without trying to raise prices (basically taking away the free soft drinks) in an attempt to increase the average ticket price. Sadly, this only made it worse. There needs to be more tourism here; it is the bread and butter, for this community. Local jobs depend on it, without it, a community with an average median income of around $38K, doesn’t have a big enough disposable income to be able to afford to dine out very often. So, when we have a 3-day weekend, we do well, but sadly, we struggle when tourism is down. 4) While people love our food, they simply cannot afford our prices and I won’t cut corners and serve less inferior food. We have seen more and more people come in and split a sandwich and side and order free water; simply because they cannot afford our prices, or they’re older and cannot eat much; in either case, we cannot survive the increased costs on an average ticket of $7-$10. Even worse, we’ve had people simply get up and walk out, complaining about our prices. As for the people that are going to bash us, on here, let me say this. We are consistently rated as one of the top 5 restaurants to visit in the Laughlin & Bullhead City area, by Yelp, Google and Trip-Advisor, additionally we’ve gotten over 430 five-star reviews, in less than a year. We didn’t do anything wrong. The service, the food and the ambiance are top notch; we are simply too expensive for the area. To those that have loved and supported us, over the last 14 months, we love you, thank you and are very proud to have had the pleasure to meet many of you; most importantly, our customers didn’t do anything wrong; it’s just a bad fit for the area, right now. We are deeply saddened and sorry for this decision, please know it didn’t come easy and we only wish that it didn’t have to be this way. We will be moving back to Ohio and focusing our efforts on getting Uncle Bo’s re-opened there. I'm not sure why people feel the need to spread rumors around and say that Uncle Bo's Slow-n-Low is closing our AZ location...! It's laughable really! Don't people have anything better to do than gossip? Listen, to those that love and support us; we truly thank you! To those that are constantly spreading rumors and making nasty comments on social media about us. WE'RE HERE TO STAY! Adjust to that fact, or don't, but you will NOT be able to rumor us out of business! We serve scratch made BBQ and sides and give you free samples; allowing people to decide (before they spend their money), if our brand of BBQ is right for them. If not, no big deal!
